      Take notice of the wire floor beneath these birds. One bird with one foot visible; displays its toes protruding through the wire floor making for a continually uncomfortable situation. Chickens in these environments with this type of flooring have been found to have an increased incidence of foot and claw deformities. Some have experienced the further misfortune of having their feet actually grow around the cage after having been caught in the wire. Others become ensnared in the wire and die inches from their feed troughs unable to reach whatever meager diet they are afforded.
