The feathered clump on the floor of this cage is the trampled, rotten remains of a chicken stained by excrement. If ever these creatures were truly cared for a bird could not be found in such a state of decay as to virtually fall through the wire floor of the cage in which it was confined. The hens in this picture are located at the factory farm Ise-America in Cecilton, Maryland. This factory farm like many others distributes its products under the banner of “Animal Care Certified.” Take notice of the picture above and determine for yourself whether these birds look as if they are cared for. Who determines whether eggs get the “Animal Care Certified” mark of approval you may ask; the egg industry of course. You can see the deceptive label here.
