      This is the view from the manure pit below the rows of cages. While the wire floors allow excrement to pass through it also causes feet and claw problems for the birds whose feet must endure the daily torture of standing on such an uncomfortable surface.

      The hens in this picture are located at the factory farm Ise-America in Cecilton, Maryland. This factory farm like many others distributes its products under the banner of “Animal Care Certified.” Take notice of the picture above and determine for yourself whether these birds look as if they are cared for. Who determines whether eggs get the “Animal Care Certified” mark of approval you may ask; the egg industry of course. You can see the deceptive label here.
