Bears aren’t the great predators people think. There is a reason nature shows do not show bears chasing down deer and catching them mid flight; it doesn't happen. This is not to say that if a bear wandered upon a feeble deer she wouldn’t attempt to make a meal of it; just that a bear is not the fearsome predator many hunters desire it to be. The bear’s diet varies depending on habitat, but consists of berries, plants, fruit, various animals (including fish and insects) and the occasional honey raid. Bears will also eat garbage left by humans or anything else we unknowingly provide. The victim in this picture is a Brown bear.
