Jigheads are used as a means of adding weight to a lure or animal used as bait. Weight is important because it allows the bait being presented to fall below the waters surface to the depths where the fish live. Weight also allows an angler to cast farther with their rod and reel expanding the amount of area they can cover every cast. Jigheads are simply a hook cast in lead and are generally colored so as to improve visibility and attract fish.
